Great Expectations Final Evaluation

This part of the project has been a challenge but I have enjoyed every minute of it. There has been a lot more hard work involved, working closely to deadlines and getting work done on time. Working to the brief has been interesting, I like getting set a task but then completely creating whatever you want. It makes everyones work different and interesting. To start with, I found reading great expectations quite hard to get in to and it took me a long time to read, but with the help of the film adaptations it helped me to understand the story better.

I always knew straight from the beginning how I wanted to portray my Miss Havisham, in this completely obsessive way which was my first impression of her. I didn't imagine her as a really old lady, around her 40s/50s. I am so pleased with how my Miss Havisham has turned out, I am proud of my continuity as well especially as I have never done continuity before. It was a challenge and I had a few problems, but for my first attempt it isn't too bad.

I am pleased with my Estella design and am happy with how it has turned out. The only thing that I feel let me down was the strength of my colours on camera. My idea was supposed to cover up the bruises on Estella's face but I covered it up too well as it wasn't very visible on camera. I now know that whatever makeup you put on the model looks completely different on camera and for future makeup designs I created I am always going to test the strength of colour before shooting. This has helped me learn and develop as a makeup artist as I have picked up on the problems I have made and will learn from them so I don't make the same mistake again.

Overall, I am pleased with this part of the project and I have had so much fun in the studio learning different techniques and developing my characters. It helped having a lot of background information on the characters and plot as I feel this was able to help me with my design process. I am excited about what the next project will bring!
