High Definition Broadcasting

What is High Definition Broadcasting and how does it affect makeup and hair design?

High definition broadcasting gives a picture quality up to five times sharper than the standard definition pictures on TV.

Cameras and Lighting affect the way colours and textures look on film and whatever makeup needs to be created, hair and makeup artists help the viewers believe that what the see on TV is real. With beauty makeup, it needs to look natural, but has to be durable enough to last for long hours under hot light whilst they present or act etc. Good makeup design requires a lot of research and experimentation. Current film makeup looks quite heavy in high definition so makeup artists are developing more translucent products. It also changes the way hairstylists usually work, rather than using continuity from frame to frame, they develop more natural looking hairstyles.

Because high definition is so crisp, makeup and hair needs to be perfect. Any smudges or creases in the makeup will be picked up easily and same with stray hairs across the face. It helps for artists to work under the camera and keep checking exactly what they are doing so they can see exactly how it will look on screen.

Researching this has helped me understand that my character designs need to be perfect to make the viewers believe they are real. When creating my design for my assessment, I will keep checking my model under the camera so I can see if there is any areas that show up badly and that I need to improve.
