Practicing Ageing Hands

Because I want my Miss Havisham character's hands to be in the photographs I will need to age the hands in order for it to match the face. So I can make the character look believable I will age every part of the body that is visible (face, neck and hands).  I am going to practice with latex and supracolor to see what works best.

I used latex to create old aged hands for Miss Havisham but I'm not too pleased with the outcome. Because Miss Havisham will be holding a bouquet of flowers her hand will be in a similar position to the photo above. The latex here is stretched and therefore looks smooth. The only way the latex looks good is when the hand is stretched outwards.

Here I used supracolor and made a skin colour to create lighter and darker parts. I then mixed blue, green, purple and white to make the colour of veins and got a smaller paintbrush to create finer lines of wrinkles. I will need to practice a lot more as I feel the hands don't look drastically older, however when compared with my unpainted hands you can see a difference. Even when my hands are positioned like holding a bouquet they still look quite old.

Overall I prefer using supracolor to create old hands but I will need a lot more practice in order to feel happy with the way it looks. I have ordered some old age stipple to experiment with to see which works best. Below I have taken some pictures of older looking hands so that I can copy from them in order to make them look realistic.
